Nang enrolled in the Baby Institute Workshop 11 years ago as a recent immigrant from Burma. She had two young sons at the time and spoke no English in the household. She completed the workshop and was so proud and energized for the program ceremony that she walked through driving rain to make the event and receive her award. She then participated in the various drop-in programs and sent her kids to the summer literacy camp and this engagement has paid off. One of Nang’s sons was able to skip a grade and is excelling at school and the other has just started university at RIT. Nang perfected her English, now works for Albany Med and serves as a strong community resource for new parents to engage with the Baby Institute and other opportunities for their families.
